About Johnny

Johnny Cavalli is the founder of ECO Pre-Settlement Funding and a multi-decade executive in the legal funding industry. His work centers on one mission: making sure plaintiffs do not lose strong cases to financial pressure during litigation.

Pre-settlement funding exists because most civil cases take longer to resolve than most plaintiffs can financially survive. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics has documented that the majority of civil tort cases take more than 12 months to settle. For a plaintiff who has been injured and cannot work, that timeline can force a low settlement that nobody should have to accept. Johnny built ECO Pre-Settlement Funding to give plaintiffs the financial breathing room to wait for the settlement their case actually deserves.

He has over a decade of hands-on experience in pre-settlement funding, commercial legal funding, attorney funding, and litigation finance. That experience spans personal injury cases, mass tort claims (including Camp Lejeune, Roundup, hair relaxer, and 3M earplugs), workers compensation, medical malpractice, wrongful death, and abuse-related cases. He has worked directly with thousands of plaintiffs, hundreds of plaintiff attorneys, and his own underwriting teams to make funding decisions that actually align with case outcomes.

Outside of ECO Pre-Settlement Funding, Johnny is also associated with America Lawsuit Loans, giving him visibility across multiple operating brands and a perspective on how the legal funding industry serves plaintiffs at different scales. That cross-company experience shapes how ECO Pre-Settlement Funding approaches transparency, attorney coordination, and contract structure.

Areas of Expertise

Johnny’s professional focus and areas where he publishes and speaks include:

  • Pre-settlement funding mechanics — How non-recourse advances work, how compounding rates apply, what plaintiffs should ask before signing
  • Plaintiff funding underwriting — How funders evaluate case strength, liability clarity, damages documentation, and defendant solvency
  • Mass tort funding — The unique funding considerations for MDL cases including Camp Lejeune, Roundup, hair relaxer, talcum powder, and 3M earplugs
  • Attorney coordination — How reputable funding companies work with plaintiff attorneys without creating ethical conflicts
  • State-by-state funding regulation — Licensing requirements, disclosure standards, and consumer protection frameworks across the 50 states
  • Workers compensation funding — The lien-structure complications and timeline variability that distinguish workers comp from standard personal injury funding
  • Pre-settlement vs traditional financing — Honest comparisons of pre-settlement funding against personal loans, credit cards, and HELOCs

How Johnny Thinks About Plaintiff Funding

Three principles guide Johnny’s approach to the industry and to the content published under his name on this site.

Plaintiffs deserve straight answers, not marketing. The pre-settlement funding industry has reputable operators and bad actors in roughly equal measure. Plaintiffs in financial distress are easy to mislead. Johnny insists that ECO’s contracts, payback schedules, and rate disclosures are stated in plain language, in writing, before the plaintiff signs anything.

Attorneys are partners, not obstacles. Some funders try to bypass plaintiff attorneys. That approach is illegal in most jurisdictions and almost always works against the plaintiff long-term. Johnny built ECO to work professionally with the attorney’s office on every case, because the contract relies on the attorney’s trust account for repayment.

Non-recourse means non-recourse. If a case fails, the plaintiff owes nothing. No principal. No interest. No fees. ECO’s contracts include explicit non-recourse language without carve-outs that effectively cancel the protection. This structure is what makes pre-settlement funding legally distinct from a loan, and it has to be honored when cases fail, not just talked about when contracts are signed.
